Tom was born in Rockford Illinois and grew up around the Joliet area with his mother, father and nine siblings.

He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He majored in Business Management with a minor in Finance.

In 1981, Tom established Shankland Financial Services. His goal since then has been to provide his clients peace of mind by helping them establish a financial path for both the present and future. He is a Certified Estate Planner (CEP) as well as a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).

Tom married his sweetheart, Joan, in 1983. They settled in the Chicagoland area and went on to raise five children.

Tom and his family are members of Pathway Christian Fellowship where Tom is a decon and has been the church’s treasurer since 1985.
